YAS News - Week 3, Term 1, 2022
A note from the Principal
Dear families, as we near the end of Week 3 of the 2022 school year, I would like to thank you all for your support, understanding and adaptation to what has been another trying start to school for our staff, children and families.
This week all students returned to school for face to face learning and the feedback from teachers is that the transition back to school for these students has started smoothly. As we continue to follow COVID safe measures at our school, families will be informed of changes through appropriate measures.
Each week on our school Facebook page, we will continue to publish a brief version of “what’s happening this week” as well as our Schoolzine app newsletter. There are some really exciting things happening at our school and we look forward to sharing these things with our families.
Please see below a few "house keeping" reminders:
- Dropping off/picking up of children
We ask that parents/caregivers remain in their cars or outside of the gates when dropping off or picking up of children unless with prior arrangements with some teachers.
As part of DfE requirements, parents are reminded not to drive onto the school grounds to drop off / pick up students. Students are also reminded not to park on the school grounds.
- Masks
Masks are required for:
- All adults when indoors (except if it is impending staff’s ability to communicate whilst teaching)
- Students in years 6 to 12 ( Middle and Senior School)when indoors
Masks are strongly recommended for children in years 3 to 5 when indoors.
We will have supplies for them to wear if they don’t already have one.
- Uniform Shop
The uniform shop will be open on Monday mornings – 8:45am-9:45am and Thursday afternoons – 2:30pm-3:30pm only. Uniform can also be ordered in advance, ready to be collected on either of these days by completing an order form if you know sizes. Uniform order forms can be downloaded from our school website - https://www.yankas.sa.edu.au/uniforms-
- Canteen
The canteen will be open at recess and lunch time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this Term. We do ask that, where possible, recess and/or lunch is ordered via the QKR app. Please pack recess and lunch for your child if you do not wish them to buy food from our canteen. Students are not permitted to go off site during the school day.
- Student Absences
If you child feels unwell, even if the symptoms are minor, please keep them at home. If your child has an approved absence, i.e. illness or family matter, please advise the school – 85580888.

Thiebald Inspired Cubby House
Wayne Thiebald was a famous American artist, well known for his colourful artworks that made people hungry to look at them.
Last year, the Year 10 Art students studied Thiebald and how he used colour and perspective to create his amazing artworks of everyday items like cupcakes, lollypops and ice-creams.
When the old cubby was removed from the SPA play area, it was a perfect opportunity for the Year 10 group to use their Thiebald inspired art to create a colourful "Gingerbread" house for the quad area.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the students were unable to paint their designs onto the cubby, however, their design ideas were incorporated into what is now a very colourful (and popular) addition to our yard.
Well done, Year 10 artists!
