Canteen Reopening
Dear families,
Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst our school canteen has been closed.
We are happy to announce that our canteen will be open 5 days per week from Week 6 - Monday 6th June 2022. QKR will be open for orders also.
We also welcome our new Canteen Manager, Cassandra to YAS.

Sticky Rice Cooking School
Some of our Home Ec students got to try out their cooking skills under the guidance of professional chef, Genevieve Harris at the Sticky Rice Cooking School in Sterling. Students donned aprons and set about following chef's instructions to create some delicious Indonesian dishes.
Working in small groups, students set about creating sate ayam ( chicken satay) with a peanut sauce, nasi goreng with a fresh salad and cassava crackers and krupuk (prawn crackers) . Dishes ranged in spiciness, depending on how much burn the group wanted.
Once the meal was prepared and cook, we sat down in the dining area and ate our creations. The meal was topped off with bubur ketan hitam (Sticky black rice with coconut cream) created by chef Genevieve. For many, this proved to be the highlight of the day - that and the fact we didn't have to do the dishes!
We had a fabulous food experience, with students trying new spices - sometimes finding them delicious, other times not so!
Thank you to Sticky Rice Cooking School, thank you to Trudy and the front office ladies and thank you to the students - you were great ambassadors for our school - even showcasing a bit of Indonesian now and then.

1A Class Speaker
Class 1A had guest speaker Jo come into their class this week.
Students interviewed Jo for their History lesson to compare the past and the present.
Reconciliation Week - 2022
The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme is:
“Be Brave. Make Change.”
This theme is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
Wendy has put a collection of books about Sorry Day, The Stolen Generation and Reconciliation in the staff room. If you wish to use them with your class, can you put your name on the borrowing sheet so we can keep track of them.
Here are some links that you may choose to use with your students
- Sorry Day is part of the Story Box library collection. It starts with a reading of the book Sorry Day by Trevor Jamieson and followed by a conversation by Kevin Rudd about the change in Australian policies.
There are some other YouTube clips under the title Telling Our Stories: The Stolen Generation (Florence Onus & Faye Clayton) that I haven't included but you may wish to use.
