YAS-News Term 1 Week 10 2023
A Note from The principal
What a great sports day we had last Friday! The weather was kind and so much fun and laughter was had by everyone. Well done Sturt for taking the win on the day.
Our Leadership team had a planning day this week which involved a lot of positive conversations and planning for Term 2.
Next week, on Thursday 13th April we will be celebrating success at our R-12 Assembly. The assembly commences at 11:00am in the school gymnasium and families are welcome to attend.
Our Amaroo Farmers Market will continue next week, on Tuesday from 12:00-1:00pm at the front of the school. We will also have our olive oil for sale.
As we enter an extra-long weekend to celebrate Easter, I hope you are surrounded by sunshine, flowers, chocolate and family! Happy Easter to you all, enjoy whatever you are doing.
This is our final newsletter for Term 1. With another short week next week, Week 11 promises to be eventful. If you have an opportunity to have some time off during the upcoming school holidays, have fun and take care.
See you all in Term 2!
Christine
Year 10 Art Mosaic Critters
Earlier this year we received an Arts grant from the District Council of Yankalilla to help us create some mosaic critters and creatures to feature in our developing Global Garden.
We used the UN Sustainable Development goal "Life on Land" to help us explore different ecosystems and generate ideas for our mosaic 2D sculptures.
Over the past two weeks we have generated and developed our designs and had Marcus kindly cut out our shapes on the laser cutter.
We had a great time cutting tiles and discovered various different techniques for getting the shapes we needed. Now we have started to cement the tiles to our sculptures...we are looking forward to adding them to the garden, once it is created.
Thanks again to Yankalilla District Council, in particular Claire, and Marcus for their support.
Bahasa Indonesia - 45 Friendship
This semester we are focusing on Friendship and sharing information about ourselves and our friends. We have several focus questions, which we will be learning to ask and respond to over the semester. Our photostory text has been created to feature the language covered in class and shows "Pak Sheeran" coming in as a relief teacher and trying to find out about the class and what they like doing. We are also exploring what Friendship looks like in other cultures; we have learnt that "teman" means a friend who is a teammate or classmate, but your Best Friend is a "sabahat".
We are planning to link up again with a 45 class in Port Lincoln to share our learning.
Rotation Drama
In our drama lessons we are focussing on collaboration, problem solving and teamwork . Our first task was to present a skit that lasted 1 minute. We had to choose from a few different occupations and create an event. We were not allowed to speak during the performance, so we had to convey character information through movement and facial expressions.
Congratulations to all groups - managing to keep the action going for the minute.
