Indonesian

Indonesian at Yankalilla Are School is taught from Reception to Year 9.

In the Primary years, students learn through a variety of methods including songs, games, stories, role-play, and approaches like TCI (Teaching with Comprehensible Input) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). These approaches use clear, engaging language and storytelling to help students understand and use Indonesian naturally - similar to how they learned their first language.

Our semi-deskless Indonesian space allows for movement, drama, games, and regular brain breaks - making learning active, immersive, and fun.

As one of Australia’s closest neighbours, Indonesia is a vital part of our region. Learning Indonesian helps students connect with Asia, appreciate cultural diversity and become global citizens. Our school also has a sister school arrangement where our students have the opportunity to interact with students from Indonesia.
